    The train station in Xi'an is situated in the northeast of the town and is just outside the city wall. The Longhai Railway Line runs all the way from the eastern coast to the western inland area, Xi`an is a major stop for trains heading either west or east and the line actually splits here. Some trains head north to Beijing and others east to Shanghai. There are direct trains from Xi'an to Beijing (14 hrs), Shanghai(16 hrs), Guangzhou (27 hours), Chengdu (16 hrs), and Urumuqi(43 hrs). The completion of the Xi'an--Ankang Railway Line that has cut down the distance (500km!) and time between Xi'an and Chongqing. This will be a good way to reach this distant city and start your Three Gorges Tour.

    There is a ticket booking office on the first level of the train station which is open 24 hours a day. You can also buy tickets at most of the major CICB/China industrial and commercial Bank.

    Tickets can be purchased at the station itself as well as at conveniently placed ticket booths within Xi'An. One such ticket booth is located on the east side of Bei Da Jie just north of The Bell Tower .There is a 5 yuan fee to purchase tickets there. Tickets for trains that arrive, depart or pass through Xi'An station can theoretically be purchased 12 days in advance. Hotels, hostels and travel agencies may charge their own fees for ticket sales but fees usually range between 5 and 20 yuan.
